Country music and former American Idol star Kellie Pickler has been creating quite a stir after shaving off all of her hair.

For those who don’t know or remember 26 year old Kellie Pickler is an American country music artist who has released 3 great albums ( Small Town Girl, Kellie Pickler, and 100 Proof) and has made various television appearances. She began as a contestant on the 5th season of the big Fox reality show American Idol, finishing in sixth place. While on the show she was often compared to Jessica Simpson, due to her “[...]southern style and ditzy demeanor”. A year after the show ended, she was signed to 19 Recordings and BNA Recordings as a recording artist. In 2012, she was ranked as the 14th best American Idol alumna.

Kellie is known for her kind heart and her many philanthropic works (St. Jude’s, Hurricane Katrina, USO tours, etc); and Kellie shaving her head is just yet another example of her humongous heart. Kellie chose to cut her lovely locks to show support for one of her best childhood friends, Summer Miller, who is currently battling breast cancer. Summer (age 35) is starting her chemotherapy treatments today and Kellie who often refers to Miller as her “sister” decided to cut her hair along with her friend before the first treatment.

Pickler explained that Summer is only 35, and stated that aside from helping her friend through a tough time, she wanted to spread the message that early detection is key when it comes to cancer. “Cancer does not discriminate,” Pickler said in a statement to ABC News.

I commend Kellie on her powerful showing of solidarity and hope that this will encourage people to put their health first and go to the doctors and get checked. Good Luck to Summer and all of those suffering from any form of cancer.

Earlier today millions of Americans tuned into the start of a new season of football in the NFL. If you watched (or have good NBA knowledge) then you would notice the new athletic apparel being worn on the gridiron. Deriving its name from Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman's old number, the NFL Nike Elite 51 uniform has several new cosmetic and performance changes to aid players on the field. First we have the new Nike Flywire featured in Nike's newest athletic shoes to provide a lightweight but tight fit. Next up is the mesh ventilation featured throughout for maximum thermoregulation and stretchy hydrophobic materials that are supposed to increase range of motion. The new uniform also features impact absorbent DeFlex padding in the pants held up by an aircraft grade aluminum D-ring belt.

The upper part incorporates the Nike Pro Combat Hyperstrong 4-pad top with built-in padding for protection on top of a pair of Nike Pro Combat Hyperstrong Compression 3/4 pant with more Deflex technology, Dri-FIT fabric and special seams for comfort.

Nike is also supplying all the footwear for the new Nike Elite 51 uniform. Players will be wearing  Nike Vapor game socks with tonal cushioning and heel padding to relieve pressure inside their Nike Vapor Talon Cleat with Nike's Hyperfuse technology built in.

While all this new "technology" seems great we'll have to wait and see how and if this actually affects the players on the field. The new uniforms seem streamlined and much less bulky previous NFL attire. Lets hope that with all the dropped size there is no reduction in player safety. That's like trading in that big and bad heavy-metal 76' Monte Carlo for a lighter, more advanced technology bearing but less sturdy carbon fiber Chevrolet Volt. Even with the welcome advances in technology the change would still be a downgrade.

Sadly as a lot of us have heard by now American music industry executive Chris Lighty was found dead at 44 in his Bronx apartment after committing suicide (shot to the head) on August 30th of this year.

For those who aren’t aware of who Chris Lighty is, he is the founder of Violator, a record label, management, and marketing company, which represented hip hop artists such as Nas, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, Missy Elliott, L.L. Cool J, and 50 Cent. He served as Sean "Diddy" Combs' manager. The New York Times called him "one of the most powerful figures in the hip-hop business.”

It was thought that he committed suicide due to overwhelming debt and divorce. There had been reports that Lighty owed the IRS millions. His wife, Veronica Lighty says the numbers stated were way off. "We were not in debt $5 million," she said, only adding, "Chris had a lot of weight on his shoulders." She also stated that she did not feel the divorce had anything to do with his suicide either. Veronica says their relationship was was actually on the mend. Unknown to many she retracted the divorce on Father’s day.

Lighty’s business partner Michael ‘Blue’ Williams, agreeing with Veronica suspects stress (not caused by debt or divorce) is probably the reason for Lighty’s untimely death. "Chris' debt is probably less important than the pressure that he was under," Williams told MTV News on Friday. "What people are missing and what people don't see and what Chris is an example of is how much, as black men, we carry around and don't always communicate."

Lighty was laid to rest yesterday in a funeral that was attended by some of the biggest names in rap royalty, but the hip hop world is still highly distraught by the loss of Chris. Today Russell Simmons reflected on Lighty and his contributions to the world of hip hop and RnB.

Let’s not forget the six children Lighty left behind and keep them in our thoughts and prayers because losing a parent is never easy especially under these circumstances. We also need to remember that sometimes more money equals more problems and that Stress can be the deadliest of killers.

Today at 8:42 AM a earthquake hit Costa Rica and other parts of Central America. Some houses were destroyed by the force, highways were blocked, hospitals were crowed and at least one death has been attributed to the event (a man in Costa Rica one man died of a heart attack caused by fright), and general panic ensued. But because there was no major damage Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla asked for everyone to remain as calm as possible.

The epicenter was in the beach town of Cangrejal, local resident Jairo Zuniga, 27, said everything in his house fell when the quake first hit this morning. "It was incredibly strong. I've felt earthquakes, but this one was 'wow,' Jairo recounts. The earthquake occurred in a seismically active zone where the Pacific tectonic plate is diving beneath Central America. "All along the Pacific coast of Central America, you can expect fairly big earthquakes," said seismologist Daniel McNamara of the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was fairly deep — 25 miles below the surface. Deeper events tend to be less damaging than ones closer to the surface, but more widely felt.

In the beginning officials warned of a possible tsunami, and local police supervisor Jose Angel Gomez said about 5,000 people (80 percent of the population) had been evacuated from coastal towns in the Samara district west of the quake's epicenter. But by mid-day they were allowed to return. Panama also briefly called for people to evacuate beach areas.

The magnitude originally thought to be at 7.9, but was quickly downgraded. Although that did nothing to downgrade the panic as many locals in the area flooded the streets in fear. The Locals said it shook for about 30 seconds and even residents as far away as Panama and Nicaragua felt it, where some schools were canceled.

It was in 2009 that the last deadly earthquake hit Costa Rica and resulted in 40 deaths, The last similar sized earthquake the country was in 1991 and 47 people died. Thankfully the death count was much smaller today, but lets all keep the people of Costa Rica and the other effected areas in our thoughts and prayers.

The infamous Queen of Cocaine has apparently met her  untimely end in her home country of Colombia in Medellin.

She was gunned down in one of her own preferred assassination method by 2 motorcyclist gunmen. She was reported to have been shot twice in the head (much like her assassination of 2 year old Johnny Castro in 1982) according to the Miami Herald. If your not familiair with Griselda she was a major cocaine dealer in the 1980s and acquired many nicknames such as the Queen of Cocaine, The Godmother, La Bella de la Mafia (The Mafia Lady) and The Black Widow. She is rumored to have ordered and or participated in the murder of over 250 people.

Blanco hasn't been spotted much since her appearance at this Bogota Airport in 2007

The 69 year old Blanco was also featured in the notorious 2008 documentary Cocaine Cowboys II: Hustlin' With the Godmother. The documentary details her life from her ex lover Charles Cosby point of view. It is an interesting watch and an amazing peek into her world of drugs, money and murder. Who would think you’d go from Regis Philbin to a former NFL player? It was officially announced on August 21, 2012 that Michael Strahan former Giant defense player would be permanently taking Philbin’s place after various tryouts with other co-hosts. And today was the premiere of the newly titled Live With Kelly & Michael. Strahan has co-hosted the show up to now 20 times and Michael Gelman the executive producer felt that their was something so special and natural with Kelly and Michael’s chemistry that he was a perfect fit for cohost.

Ripa is very pleased she stated the camaraderie is "spontaneous" since they have similar senses of humor and is ready for “the new era” of their show to begin. Strahan also feels great about his chemistry with Kelly and notes how real the audience will see their connection is since “You can't get on live TV every morning and fool people”.

After watching the show today, I have a good feeling about this pairing. I could tell that they genuinely got along and not just for the cameras. I feel that 6ft 5, 275 pound former defensive lineman will bring big things for the series and sack the daytime talk show competition.
